The current
Al-Fargh al-Awwal takes its name from two stars in Pegasus, the winged horse. The Arabic name means the upper spout, the upper of two bucket handles, the image of water being poured. After the hidden, foundational work of Sa'd al-Akhbiyah, this station opens and what has been contained pours outward.
The traditional image is a woman washing and combing her hair. In this canon she is a queen tending to herself, hair unbound, her attention on her own presence rather than the external world. The image is deceptively simple and precisely chosen. She is not preparing for a performance. She is attending to the quality of her own presence as an act of love, because the love this station governs begins with what you bring to it rather than what you seek from it.
This is love in its highest register within the closing arc. Not the union of Al-Awwa, which is bodies joined in mutual desire, and not the tested endurance of Al-Simak's crossing. The love here is the kind the Neoplatonists wrote about as the recognition of the Beautiful: the love that draws toward its source, and is also a form of homecoming. What the station will not carry is the reaching out from emptiness, the attempt to draw love toward a space with nothing to offer in return.
