You have been working on a problem. You have thought it through from every angle, taken advice, made a plan and started it twice.
What you have not accounted for is that you are exhausted. Not tired in the way a weekend fixes. Depleted in the way where your judgement has gone off without you noticing, your patience is shorter than it was and everything takes three times the effort it used to.
Six of the seven planets are aimed at the world outside you. This one is aimed at you, and a Moon hour comes round several times in every day.
What the Moon actually governs
In the Western tradition the Moon governs the internal world: clearing, healing, emotional reset, internal steadiness and purification. What you carry, what you absorb and what you cannot shake.
This part of the tradition is functional rather than soft. When the person acting is overwhelmed, the action itself gets worse. Judgement blurs. Timing turns sloppy. Caught in loops of anxiety, grief or plain exhaustion, everything you attempt lands with less force than it should.
So the Moon's work is to clear: releasing what clings, recovering from shock or burnout or heartbreak or long stress, and getting sleep back along with the sense that you are safe again.
The tradition also gives the Moon movement and crowds, which is why it covers travel and unfamiliar ground, and it gives the Moon your home, which is why it covers the atmosphere of a room and the weight a place can hold.
The image at the top of this page is called Sage. It was created on a Monday, in the hour of the Moon, with the Moon in Cancer, the sign it rules. The Moon crosses Cancer for about two and a half days each month and only a few of those passages land on a Monday. Jupiter happened to be sitting in the same sign at the strongest point it reaches in twelve years.
The one that prepares the ground
Every planet has combinations it favours. The Moon's role is different from all of them, because it goes first.
The tradition describes it as preparing the ground so the other planets have somewhere to plant. Clear yourself, then ask for the money. Clear yourself, then walk into the room and be taken seriously. Each of the seven governs its own department, and this is the one that makes the operator fit to use the other six.
Which makes it the wrong place to look for the result itself, and the right place to begin when nothing you try is landing.
What to do in a Moon window
The Moon holds Monday, and Moon hours come round several times in every other day of the week as well. The planetary hours are the layer underneath the days, and that article covers how to find yours.
The principle is simple. Do the ordinary thing at the moment its governing planet is open.
Rest, deliberately. The early night. The afternoon with nothing in it. Rest you put in the calendar on purpose, rather than the collapse at the end of a week you pushed too hard.
Clear the space. Clean the room properly. Move the furniture. Get rid of the things that came from a part of your life that has ended. The tradition takes seriously what a place holds onto.
End the contact. Delete the number. Unfollow. Return the belongings. Whatever the practical version is of stopping a connection you have already decided to stop.
Break the habit. The first day of stopping something. This is a starting window rather than a solution, and anything with a physical dependency in it needs a doctor rather than an hour.
Recover after conflict. The day after the argument, the interview that went badly, the confrontation you did not handle well. Do not decide anything. Let it settle.
Travel. Departures, long drives, moving through crowds and unfamiliar places.
Write it down. The version of events you have not said out loud yet, written for nobody but you.
What the Moon will not do, and the trap it sets
The Moon steadies the person. It does not move the circumstances, and confusing those two costs people months.
Money is Jupiter. Warmth is Venus. Authority is the Sun. If someone needs to stop, that is Saturn, and if a situation has to end, that is Mars.
There is a trap here, and the tradition names it plainly. When confrontation is what the situation requires, do not delay it forever in clearing. Preparation is real, and it can also become the most comfortable place in the world to hide. Clear yourself, then move.
One more thing worth saying directly. Clearing, rest and a quieter mind are ordinary human needs and timing can support them. They are not treatment. If you are dealing with grief, anxiety, depression or anything that has taken hold of your life, see a doctor or a therapist. Nothing on this page replaces that, and the tradition never claimed it would.
Beyond timing
Timing is the layer you can use immediately and it costs you nothing. It is also the outermost layer.
The older tradition went further than choosing the hour. It spoke into the hour, addressing the planet directly with a specific request rather than waiting to see what the day would bring. Astrological Magic sets out that practice in full and gives the Moon line eight operations with the exact wording for each.
Start with the hour. Find the current Moon window for your location and use it to stop for once.
Astrological guidance is for reflection and is not a substitute for professional advice. Nothing here is medical or psychological advice, and it is not a treatment for any condition. If you are struggling with your mental health, please speak to a doctor or a qualified therapist.
