The current
Al-Simak takes its name from Spica, the bright star in the sheaf of wheat held by Virgo. The name means the unarmed one, distinguishing this star from another Arabic name meaning the armed one. Spica is among the most benefic fixed stars in the tradition. It carries the natures of Venus and Mars together, desire and force, but in Spica that combination produces something distinctly gentle. The armed force of Mars is softened by Venus into something that protects without threatening.
After the full union of Al-Awwa, the fourteenth station completes the sequence of separation, union and what follows. But this is not a simple dissolution. It is more complex than that. The traditional image is a dog holding its own tail in its mouth, a figure of the chase that circles back on itself. In this canon she is a queen in a moment of turning, looking back at what is behind her, her expression one of clear eyed recognition rather than regret.
