The current
Al-Awwa takes its name from four stars in the breast and wings of Virgo. The name has been read variously as the wings, the barking dogs, and simply the turning, after the shift in the Moon's path at this point. After the confrontation of the twelfth station, the thirteenth is where the current transforms completely. This is the station of union, of the bond that forms when two forces that were in tension finally come together.
The traditional image is explicit and intentionally so: a man and a woman in the act of union. In this canon it is a king and queen in close embrace, their connection one of genuine desire and full commitment. The image is direct because the current is direct. This station does not govern the tentative approach or the possibility of connection. It governs the moment of actual union.
It is also one of the most auspicious stations in the cycle for commercial matters, which is less paradoxical than it looks. The same current that governs the union of two people governs the partnership where two forces combine to make something neither could make alone. Trade, collaboration, creative partnership, commercial alliance: all forms of union, all favoured here. What the station will not do is discriminate. It amplifies whatever is brought to it, and if what is brought is not genuine, what is amplified is the falseness.
